Putaway gives inventory a temporary, tracked location while it waits to be moved to a final storage bin. Use it when returned items or products from a reset shipping flow cannot be shelved immediately.
When should I use putaway?
- Returns: Stage inspected, good-condition items and move them to storage in one session later.
- Shipping corrections: Move items out of a packing area after an order is reset or canceled, then put them away together.
If a product can go straight to its final shelf, you may not need a separate putaway step. Keep damaged inventory separate from good stock.
Step 1: Stage products in a putaway location
Use a dedicated location marked Put away under Warehouses → Locations. Scan or move products into that staging location as part of your normal returns or shipping-correction workflow.

A putaway location is a temporary holding area, not a normal picking shelf.
Step 2: Start a Putaway session
Select Putaway in the sidebar. Scan the staging location or tote, or select it in the Location field. Click Start Putaway to see the products currently there.

Step 3: Choose a product and destination
Select a product in the session or scan its barcode. When a suggested destination is available, it is selected by default. You can search for or scan another location before you confirm.

Step 4: Enter the quantity and confirm
Under Units to Putaway, scan each unit or enter the total quantity. Click Confirm to transfer that quantity, then repeat for any other products in the staging location.

Common questions
Do I have to use the suggested location? No. You can choose another destination before confirming the transfer.
Why don’t I see Putaway in the menu? The feature and your Manage Putaway permission must be enabled for your organization. Ask an administrator or Warehance Support to check access.
What if a product is missing from the session? Confirm that you started from the location or tote where the item was staged. The session lists products in the selected source location.
