Introducing Companion Products

The Companion Products feature gives you complete control over what ships and when. It ensures items like marketing inserts, packaging materials, or instruction cards only ship when paired with real products—preventing empty boxes, stray materials, and incomplete orders.

By linking companion items directly to shippable SKUs, you can protect your customer experience while keeping your warehouse workflows flexible and efficient.

What’s New with Companion Products

The feature introduces smart shipping logic that automatically detects and prevents companion-only orders from releasing, even when partial shipments are enabled.

Highlights include:

  • Prevent Incomplete Shipments: Mark inserts, packaging, and other non-sellable items as companion products so they only ship with real merchandise.
  • Smart Partial Shipment Logic: Orders containing only companion items are held from release, ensuring every shipment includes at least one product.
  • Flexible Inventory Tracking: Maintain accurate stock counts for packaging and marketing materials without triggering early shipments.
  • Simple Configuration: Designate companion items with a single setting—no manual checks or workflow changes required.

Why This Matters

Accidentally shipping empty boxes or standalone inserts can lead to confusion, extra costs, and unnecessary customer service issues. Companion Products helps eliminate those mistakes by ensuring every shipment is complete and intentional.

With this feature, you can:

  • Protect your brand experience by preventing incomplete orders.
  • Maintain flexibility for split or partial shipments without extra setup.
  • Accurately track inserts, gift boxes, and packaging as inventory items.
  • Reduce manual checks and operational risk during fulfillment.

How It Works

From the Product Settings page, simply mark any SKU as a Companion Product. Warehance then automatically applies intelligent shipment validation across your orders. If a shipment contains only companion items, it’s held until a real product is added.

This logic works seamlessly with your existing partial shipment settings, so you can continue fulfilling orders efficiently while keeping packaging and marketing materials tied to the right products.

How You Can Use It Today

Marketing & Inserts: Ensure promotional cards, flyers, or samples only ship with qualifying products.
Custom Packaging: Keep branded boxes and materials aligned with active shipments.
Assembly Kits: Pair instruction sheets or accessory parts with primary items.
Operational Safeguards: Eliminate manual checks for packaging-only orders and reduce costly re-shipments.

The Bottom Line

Companion Products helps you ship smarter by guaranteeing that packaging, inserts, and marketing materials always go out with real products. It adds a layer of protection to your fulfillment process, reducing errors and keeping every order complete, consistent, and customer-ready.
